Miku's 10th Anniversary Magical Mirai USA screening

On August 31st, 2007, Hatsune Miku, a vocal bank for the vocal synthesizer VOCALOID2 software, was released to the public. In the years following her release, people across the Internet utilized her voice and this extraordinary new technology to create their own songs and post them onto the web. She, and the songs and people who used her voice, skyrocketed in popularity across the entire world. With the power of her voice and image, people from anywhere were able to make music and art that would be viewed and shared across an entire community of people from different countries and walks of life, the one thing uniting them being her- Hatsune Miku.

Now, nearly 10 years since the day she was “born”, her community still thrives in numerous ways and in numerous places. The rate of music and art being created in her name shows no signs of slowing. The name “Hatsune Miku” is still one that causes joy in those who call themselves her fans.

On August 31, 2017, it will have been 10 years since the first release of her software back in 2007. To everyone who wholeheartedly loves Hatsune Miku, this date is extremely important and marks a gigantic milestone in her history.

Every single year for nearly 5 years, Crypton Future Media, in collaboration with SEGA and TOKYO MX, holds a large-scale concert called “Magical Mirai” in the time surrounding her birthday. This year’s Magical Mirai is set to take place over September 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. The first Magical Mirai concert in 2013 was screened by Live Viewing Japan in theatres in both New York and Los Angeles, as well as Monterrey, Guadalajara and other locations in Mexico, allowing fans across the ocean to celebrate her 6th birthday along with fans in Japan by watching the concert through local theatres. Screenings for 2014’s, 2015’s and 2016’s Magical Mirais sadly never took place. This year, however, could possibly be different! Depending on the number of signatures on this petition, we may be able to bring Hatsune Miku back to our theatres for her 10th anniversary. It would be amazing if we could celebrate her 10th anniversary in a way that reflects what the culture of Vocaloid is all about- with other fans, listening to her music and celebrating how far she has come, together. Miku’s voice represents how people can connect with each other across oceans to create beautiful things. Please allow us on this side of the planet to take part in celebrating our angel’s 10th anniversary!
