‘Dog Daddy’ canine breeder scammed Staten Island couple out of money and a promised family pet, says report
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A South Shore family alleges a dog trainer and breeder with hundreds of thousands of followers on social media stiffed them out of $1,000.
The breeder, Augusto Deoliveira, bills himself as “The Dog Daddy,” The Post reported.
Several years ago, a video of Deoliveira walking a pack of German Shepherds off-leash went viral and from there his fame grew. According to the news outlet, he previously was based in Massachusetts and South Carolina— while claiming to have generated 2 billion TikTok views.
Staten Island resident Michael To said he and his wife, Elaine, reached out to Deoliveira in February about purchasing a second German Shepherd for the family. But after shelling out money, the dog never showed up. And neither did a refund Deoliveira reportedly promised.
It’s not the first time “The Dog Daddy” has been accused of shady dealings.
Allegations posted in a Facebook group called The Truth About Ultimate German Shepherds cited “The Dog Daddy” as failing to deliver on training that was paid for, and mistreating dogs.
An anonymous post in February claimed Deoliveira “leaves a wake of destruction wherever he goes, and takes advantage of people’s kindness.”
In Massachusetts, Deoliveira was accused several years ago of selling sick dogs, 25 News Boston reported. .
Responding to the allegations on Staten Island, Deoliveira reportedly told The Post a business partner who was working with the To family had a medical emergency, which is why the animal was never delivered. Adding that he was “in process” of issuing a refund.
He told the Post no allegations of abuse nor neglect had ever been substantiated against him and that “people go out there and say whatever they want to say for attention.”
“My customers and clients are very happy. People hire me and pay top dollar because they know they get good results,” he said, according to the Post.
