I am not a kayaker, but when I purchased a new solo canoe, it was suggested to me, that in addition to my regular canoe paddle, I look into getting a basic kayak paddle, to try with the solo canoe. I saw this Carlisle Magic paddle at LL Bean, and it looked as though it would meet my needs. It has done quite well for me, and I can recommend this paddle as a basic, recreational paddle for a kayak or canoe.

I had never used a kayak paddle before I purchased my solo boat; I have found this basic paddle to be easy to use ( assemble and take apart), is comfortable to grip and use while paddling, and allows me to paddle smoothly across expanses of lakes and ponds. (I tend to use my regular wooden canoe paddle for slow, shallow water explorations).
The shaft is aluminum and the blades are polypropylene, with fiberglass reinforcement. It has held up well, being banged against rocky shorelines, thrown in the back of the car, and other normal wear and tear uses.
The blades can be feathered 60 degrees or used straight. I usually use them straight, and in this orientation, I find it easy to control my boat. The paddle weighs 2lb. 3 oz, which I know is heavier than higher tech paddles, but for basic recreational use, it seems just fine. The blades are brightly colored, and have a little contour, making them efficient, even though it is a low-end paddle.
I have had no issues with the push-button which assembles, and disassembles the shaft. The drips rings seem to divert only a small amount of the water, despite trying them in various positions along the shaft. Not a big deal, since going canoeing with my dog I expect to get at least a little wet!
I got a nice deal on this paddle from LL Bean. A sale and a discount coupon brought the price to $36. Certainly, a very adequate paddle, at a very good price.

I purchased the Magic cabinet and wood cleaner and polish with high hopes of rejuvenating my old wooden furniture. Unfortunately, this product fell flat on its promises. After following the instructions, the cleaner left a sticky residue on the surface of my cabinets that proved difficult to remove. Additionally, it did not do much to improve the overall appearance of the wood. I was highly disappointed with this product and would not recommend it to others.
