The Miami Heat mascot reportedly had to attend hospital after being punched by Irish mixed martial artist Conor McGregor at basketball’s NBA finals.

What was a promotional stunt during game four between the Heat and Denver Nuggets ended badly as former UFC champion McGregor floored ‘Burnie’, who was wearing oversized boxing gloves, with a left hook before adding another punch as the stricken Miami mascot lay on his back.

‘Burnie’ – who is described as a “rough, anthropomorphic depiction of the fireball featured on the Heat’s logo” – was dragged off court by three people and it was later reported that the individual inside the mascot suit was taken to the emergency room of a nearby hospital for treatment.

The Heat have declined to comment on the incident, but it has been reported that the mascot is out of hospital and recovering.

The Miami Herald said that “the man behind the Burnie costume has never revealed his name publicly and the team does not identify him in its media guide”.

McGregor, who was booed by many in the Miami crowd even before walking on court, stayed for the entire game as the Nuggets won 108-95 to secure a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

UFC president Dana White questioned the practice of mascots taking punches from “professional fighters”, highlighting the 2018 incident when former world heavyweight boxing champion Deontay Wilder was invited to show his punching power on a hot-dog like creature.

Asked about the McGregor incident at the UFC 289 post-fight press conference, White said: “I saw the Deontay Wilder one too.

“What’s up with mascots getting punched in the face by professional fighters? What do you expect?

“What are those mascot things made out of? Unless you’re like the Golden Knights mascot…with a metal helmet…

“I wouldn’t have professional fighters punch me in the face if I was a mascot, doesn’t seem like the brightest thing in the world.”

Others believe that it was a strategic decision aimed at rebranding and modernizing our community's image. Regardless of the rationale, the news has sparked a wave of mixed emotions and passionate debates among residents. The removal of Mascott has not come without its fair share of criticism. Many community members view this as a betrayal of tradition and a loss of something inherently valuable to our identity. They argue that Mascott's presence was a vital source of inspiration for our youth, and its absence will leave a void that cannot be easily filled. On the other hand, supporters of the decision argue that it was necessary to adapt and grow as a community. They believe that Mascott had become stale and outdated, and removing it was an essential step towards embracing change. They suggest that the resources previously dedicated to Mascott can now be redirected towards more pressing matters, such as community development and welfare. As the dust settles and Mascott's eviction becomes a reality, the question remains: What will be the lasting impact of this decision? Will our community evolve and thrive without its iconic symbol, or will there be a lingering sense of emptiness? Only time will tell. In the meantime, the legacy of Mascott lives on in the memories and experiences shared by community members. The cheers, chants, and laughter that were once synonymous with Mascott's presence will forever be etched in our hearts. And though its physical representation may no longer be present, the spirit of Mascott continues to weave its way through the tapestry of our community, reminding us of the unity and joy it once embodied..

Reviews for "The Trials and Tribulations of Mascot Life: Getting Kicked Out"

- Sarah - 2 stars - I was really excited to watch "Mascott gets knicked out" because I love animal movies, but I was so disappointed. The plot was predictable and cliché, the jokes were not funny at all, and the acting was subpar. I couldn't connect with any of the characters and found myself rolling my eyes throughout the entire movie. Overall, it was a letdown and I wouldn't recommend it.
- Jason - 1 star - This movie was a complete waste of time. The storyline was confusing and didn't make any sense. The CGI was terrible, and it was obvious that the actors weren't interacting with the animated animals properly. The dialogue was cringeworthy and seemed like it was written by a 10-year-old. Save your money and skip this one.
- Emily - 2 stars - As an animal lover, I was expecting to enjoy "Mascott gets knicked out", but sadly, it fell short. The film was filled with overused animal movie tropes and lacked any originality. The characters were one-dimensional and it felt like the actors were just going through the motions. The plot was thin and even the cute animals couldn't save it. I was left feeling unsatisfied and wishing I had chosen a different movie.
