For what it's worth, we aren't based in Dallas but we have a LOT of
Dallas customers who order with us. Our shipments get there within a
couple of days. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

because they cannot compete. I really hope this is not the case.

I'm lucky to have the opportunity to visit magic shops from HI, CA to
NY, in about another 20 years I bet half of them wont even be around.

Next time your at the magic shop and you see the demonstrator demo a
whole magic show for some schmuck and he walks out without buying
anything, punch the guy square in the balls (i'm kidding of coarse).

I know others feel the opposite because they have been ripped off
plenty of time from magic shops.. but does the bottom feeders on ebay
really help you with the trick you just bought? Can you network from
them like you can from the owner of the shop? Can you hear stories
from them that would never appear on the green place or bully pull pit
forums (you know where)?

I think your attack on ebayers is misplaced. It allows people who bought
something new but no longer have a use for it to recycle it and buy

Personally, I don't like buying anything from a photo or video. I
know these can be misleading. The more some dealers mislead people,
the less any will be trusted.

I believe that if you buy a magic gimmic without seeing the effect
performed with the version you are being sold, you are much more
likely to be disappointed with the item when you receive it.
You will open the box, pull out the instructions, flip to where you
get to find the method. and think "nobody will fall for that".

If you see it performed, right in front of your eyes with one
off the shelf, and you are amazed, you cannot really doubt
that it works.

It was always a tricky business, balancing between keeping
the secrets and getting enough trade to survive. Maybe the
precarious balance only needed a slight shift, and the Internet
has done that.

One of the issues could be all the secrecy. If you are new to magic
or new to an area, how do you find your local magic shop?
I have just looked in my latest Yellow Pages.
Magical Supplies. See Party goods & Theatrical Supplies.
Party Goods.. Party shops, nothing saying magical supplies.
Theatrical Supplies. Nothing linked to magic.
However, go on-line and Google will soon point to an on-line dealer.

Magic shops can no longer hide. the days of secretly dealing
magic items from a shop down a dark and quiet alley have gone.
It's out in the open, for anyone to find the Intenet dealers. Maybe
the shops dealing magic props need to be just as easy to find.
Their advantage is that they can show the effect, but that means
nothing if the customer cannot find them.

If magic shops can adapt, find ways to get the customers in, maybe
the on-line prices will eventually need to increase as they battle
to provide whatever the real shops can.
I have seen this happen with food stores - my local "corner"
shops can often beat some of the supermarket prices now.
