The Esoteric Teachings of High Magic in "The Doctrine and Ritual of High Magic

By admin

"The Doctrine and Ritual of High Magic" is a famous occult book written by Eliphas Levi, a renowned French occultist and philosopher. This book provides an in-depth exploration of magic, its theories, and practices within the context of spiritual development and personal enlightenment. Levi's work is heavily influenced by the esoteric traditions of the Western Mystery Tradition, particularly drawing from Hermeticism, Kabbalah, and Christian mysticism. In this book, he presents a comprehensive system of occult knowledge, outlining the principles and rituals of high magic. One of the core concepts discussed in the book is the existence of a universal cosmic force known as the "astral light." Levi believed that this force permeated the universe and acted as a medium through which magical operations could be performed.

The Doctrine and Ritual of High Magic: A New Translation - Softcover

The Doctrine and Ritual of High Magic reignited the esoteric spiritual search in the West and led to the emergence of Madame Blavatsky, Manly P. Hall, and the New Age revolution.

Lvi's study of magic is an absolute must for every seeker in occult, esoteric, and druidic realms; but this need has been frustrated by dated and inaccurate translations--until now. Greer, a respected occult scholar, and Mikituk, a masterful translator, collaborate to restore this landmark work--complete with its original illustrations and symbols--to the center of the alternative spiritual canon.

Review:

“Greer and Mikituk have succeeded in reestablishing Lvi’s grand transcultural synthesis in a form more relevant to and understandable for the modern occultist.”
--Fortean Times

“Lvi’s contribution was a powerful one, and his ideas deserve to be grasped by those who are exploring the Ancient Wisdom as it has manifested in the modern west. To this end, this new translation is admirably suited.—Richard Smoley, Quest magazine

Reviews for "The Path of Self-Transformation in High Magic According to "The Doctrine and Ritual of High Magic"

1. Jane - 1 star
I found "The Doctrine and Ritual of High Magic" to be incredibly dense and convoluted. The author seemed more interested in showcasing their own knowledge and intelligence rather than delivering a clear and accessible explanation of high magic. The language used was unnecessarily complex, making it difficult to follow along and grasp the concepts being presented. Additionally, the book lacked practical exercises or guidance for readers who may be new to the subject matter. Overall, I was highly disappointed with this book and would not recommend it to anyone seeking a practical understanding of high magic.
2. John - 2 stars
As someone who had some prior knowledge of high magic, I was looking forward to delving deeper into the subject with "The Doctrine and Ritual of High Magic". However, I found the book to be lacking in depth and substance. The author seemed to provide only surface-level explanations of various concepts and rituals, leaving the reader wanting more. Furthermore, the numerous references to other esoteric texts made it difficult to follow along, as it assumed prior familiarity with those works. I believe this book would be better suited for advanced practitioners rather than beginners or those seeking a comprehensive understanding of high magic.
3. Samantha - 1 star
"The Doctrine and Ritual of High Magic" was a disappointment from start to finish. The writing style was overly pompous and pretentious, making it incredibly difficult to engage with the material. The book seemed more focused on the author's ego rather than providing useful information. Additionally, the lack of practical instructions or clear explanations made it feel like a rambling diatribe rather than an instructional guide. I would not recommend this book to anyone looking for a genuine exploration of high magic, as it fell far short of my expectations.
