Written and directed by Hasan Karacadag, the film is about a doctor and an exorcist who are called out to the home of a seemingly possessed woman who had killed her husband on their wedding day a couple of years earlier, and who has been possessed since.

The doctor believes that the woman has a personality disorder and of course the spiritualist believes she is possessed. This almost plays out like a Scully/Mulder X-Files scenario and is fun to watch.

The film is a little long at 2 hours 14 minutes but it gets really intense near the middle and end and is a lot of fun. Karacadag has upped the scare factor from his 2012 entry, "Dabbe: Bir cin vakasi", also about vengeful genies. He knows how to use the camcorder and lighting to maximum effect and when watching his movies you just know that when it gets dark, something scary is going to happen.

All in all a must-watch for horror and found footage fans, as well as anyone who was disappointed by "Paranormal Activity" and its sequels.

Frankly speaking it's my first ever Turkish movie and oh man. what a movie. superb plot,incredible acting and the places looks horrific. Last year's the conjuring was the best horror movie for me till date. But this movie is definitely will be on my top 5 best horror movies ever. Based on a Muslim country and all the elements are based on Islam. As a Muslim i liked it most. Many of the things seemed pretty much like original. And that's what i seek from a horror movie. The camera work is like the paranormal activity series. Thus the movie got better then the static cam work. unlike paranormal activity series it's not boring. Gonna give viewers shocks time to time. A must watch for the horror lovers.

120 minutes of most terrifying movie experience. Having seen 3 Dabbe movies, I thought I could manage watching this latest addition but I was wrong.

The world has taken note of Hasan's work and he is all set to make his mark in Hollywood. I love his style of film-making. He has proved in each of his movies that an excellent movie can be made out of a small budget, hand-held camera work could be as good as the others, good actors, script and direction are enough to make a good movie, and that there is so much to be explored in the Genre.

I wonder how he is able to sleep at nights. After watching Dabbe 4, I couldn't sleep for two weeks, whatever little sleep I could muster was filled with the most horrific nightmares(I am not sure if all of them are nightmares). I had to throw the "Evil Eye" charm (one of em was hung in the living room by my Aunt and she had received it as a gift from a friend who happens to live in Istanbul::how creepy is that!). I was scared to look in the mirror, scared of shadows and the darkness. I had to be counseled by a friend so that I could snap out of my fright and be normal.

Dabbe 3 and 4 are based on actual events. And the sounds of the Jinns we hear in the movie were retrieved from the original case files of the events. 7 out of 8 movies that he made are in the Horror Genre. I wonder whether he could sleep at all. And the kind of information he has about the world of the Devil and the Jinns is shockingly precise and intricate.

Dabbe 3 and 4 are the best Horror movies I've ever seen. I guess, only Hasan could best this record and I hope he makes more of them.

Dabbe Cin Carpmasi (Dabbe;The Curse of the JINN) I recommend to any horror fans.

Hasan Karacadag uses only one formulaic approach in every D@bbe entry. The same core narrative is told and retold every time, implementing a very limited set of themes, plot devices, and even entire scenes with sporadic, little variations.

Here is how it works. 1) A family member exhibits unusual behaviour. 2) Medicine fails to treat said member. 3) An exorcist is brought in. 4) A "code" is discovered, containing a letter or a number. Solving the code would reveal the most important piece of information, so it usually happens towards the very end of the narrative as a plot twist. 5) Black magic artifacts are discovered. 6) An inhabited house in an otherwise abandoned village provides hope for solution. So a visit is made, by night for some reason or another. 7) The trip to the village is found to be a trap. The real danger is back at home, though, masterminded by humans. 8) The force of nature prevails and everybody who tries to defy it dies. 9) The ending is left a bit open.

The repeated scenes include: - The discovery of an amulet. - The riddance of Nazar talismans. - The mirrors evocation. - The exhumation of a large quantity of ritualistic material, such as animal parts and effigies, at the shock and disgust of family members. - Exorcist says he/she refers treatable cases to medical doctors, but not metaphysical cases. - Arguing with family over medical treatment. - The visit to the village. - The danger both in the village and at home. - Presentation of the director's favourite theory about WWW. - Humans are the transgressors. The metaphysical creatures are justifiably angry.

NOW, what makes Cin Çarpmasi stand out, even though it uses all of these elements, is that it implements it organically and intelligently.

1) Unlike the other entries where information and magical solutions are dumped on the audience by some unjustifiably omniscient supporting character, the characters here investigate and try to find the solution on their own while engaging us in the process. No illogical jumps or narrative gaps.

2) The entire setting is in a displaced village and its surroundings, making the move between locations not only justifiable but necessary.

3) Absolute minimum filling material such as cameras recording nothing happening for 2 minutes. Almost every scene is being used to serve the film.

4) Unlike the other entries, the performance here is actually good. Even very good. Lead actors did a great job.

This makes the film extremely compact despite its 2hrs running time. It is also worth mentioning that even though the film is using a pattern very similar to The Last Exorcism, it manages to achieve an identity of its own with a rich background story and more emphasis on the mystery.

Recommended with no doubt.

I've been watching Mr. Hasan Karacadag's horror movies since the "d@bbe" movie has been made in 2005. Due to its story, the movie was seemed to be the pioneer of a very different sort of horror in Turkey. The most effective fact in that is the influences of Karacadag movies in usual. The classic and usual horror movie sense in the world was like what Hollywood used so far. But with his own created view and his own assertions about doomsday, Karacadag has made an influential change about horror movie clichés.

That's what Hasan Karacadag's whole movies' main themes are about. He urges so odd arguments about Islamic metaphysical stuffs and his genuine theories about the omens of doomsday in Islam religion become very controversial claims every time he makes a new movie. His theory about the "dabbe" notion which's mostly used in his movies triggered so many discussions related to Islamic metaphysical assets mentioned in Quran. Due to the meaning of "dabbe" word he correlates the "dabbe" with the internet we always use in our lives (dabbe means something is spread around the world) because the world wide web and the dabbe both have the same function. This argument of the director has been used in almost every movies of him.

Like previous movies, the movie "Dabbe: Cin Çarpması" is also telling about Karacadag's metaphysical inquiry results. You'll be hearing of some things related to doomsday, jinns, devil etc. which you've never heard before. Like other movies of the director, this movie also will add a very different point of view to your mind about your metaphysical senses you used to have beside its thrilling side.

-It's too long -It can seem overwrought, though that might from and American POV. . -The plot is convoluted and can sometimes be difficult to follow. -I'll never watch the ending again.

It is also the first film to scare the utter crap out of me in a long, long time.

Man, how the spirit of found footage has been corrupted down through the years! That's why I feel so obliged to jump to 'Cin Çarpması's defense.

Turkey is probably one of the last places on earth that I would have expected to release a film of this magic. 'Cin Çarpması gives the genre an "Extreme Makeover: Oriental Edition": Eastern mysticism, Djinns, Turkish voodoo, black magic spells and runes, mythical demonic energy, traditional charms, and who knows what else. Sublime!

Quite different from the likes of Baskin, 'Cin Çarpması is rather accessible for an all-Western-non-Muslim like me. The catchy storytelling has more steam than a whirling dervish and is given tons of love and attention – something that Western horrors have seemingly forgotten about. In parts it feels like an Oriental telenovela, which in a weird way provides extra eerie realism.

Obviously, the filmmakers shoot on limited budget. So what? These guys are passionate, and they have an eye for both disturbing visuals and beauty. Magic kicks in without warning, the fun never stops coming, from start to finish, and takes a wicked turn at the end.

Probs to 'Cin Çarpması for putting balls on found footage. This is a trippy ride in every sense that gets better with each watch. Still unmatched in recent horror. If you have yet to see this, don't put it off any longer.

I was surprised at how good this is. Its not perfect but has some very creepy and effective horror scenes. It's certainly better than any of of the English language possession films made in the 21st century which almost all suck very badly. If you're the the type of idiot who can't stand to read subtitles then this isn't for you. This is a very good film and I'd like to see the director do more like it. Pretty creepy film.

I'm a huge fan of horror films but so far I think this is the best one! It adds a creative yet very disturbing side to the idea of possession. Moreover, there are several jump scare scenes as well. The acting is great and the story seems very real. I wasn't able to sleep at night after watching this movie.

I did watch all the dabbe movies but this one got me, finally. The first movies were "terrible" for a horror-thriller fan like me but this final one is totally different. Its like the director got out of his cocoon and finalized his evolution as a beautiful and colorful butterfly, only hope is that it won't last for some short time but we will see better and better jobs of Mr. Hasan. He shall be proud of himself and his crew (they totally deserve the applause). I am sure he slowly started to have his own fan-club. Regarding to the movie; I don't want to write any spoiler. If u like gin/goblin stuff with some black magic and metaphysic melted in the same pod with some paranormal activity/blair witch similarities including a shocking ending, you have to give a chance and watch this one. I watched it 3 hours ago and I still feel the hitting effect of the movie inside me. 4 girls sitting in front line of me did leave the theater seeming so scared (2 were crying with flooding tears out of their eyes) in the first 60 minutes. Then they had some followers saying "this movie is bad for our psychology, i won't be able to sleep alone for a long time etc etc. " So, if someone says "this movie is a crap, director has no idea what a horror movie is, bla bla bla" (cause I read such reviews in some TR sites) I have two words for them.

As someone who primarily watches American films, I'm used to seeing possession and exorcism films from a mostly Christian perspective. It's always exciting to see a different culture's take on it and Dabbe: The Possession is a perfect movie for that.

This film isn't a "Turkish version of an American horror film." Oh, no, no. This film is a deep dive into Turko-Islamic mysticism; goes very deeply into the concept of djinn, Islamic eschatology, Islamic views on witchcraft, and the afterlife. So much so that for viewers unfamiliar with some of these concepts, it might be worthing reading up on some it after. Personally, I love dense, culturally specific foreign films, not ones intended for outsiders. It's like travelling from your living room, you know?

This film has a commitment to realism that I really admire; a lot of it is presented in such a raw way, it almost reminded me of the Blair Witch Project. Suffice to say, it's quite a scary film, even for someone who's seen literally hundreds of horror movies at this point. The film is unpredictable, ratchets up the tension, goes places, and shows you things that'll make you want to take a shower in holy water. It's all wrapped around a surprisingly compelling mystery (if I felt could be presented better).

However, this movie has some big issues. Firstly, the incessant shakey cam was unintentionally hilarious given that we SEE actors holding the camera during the movie. There's no explanation given as to why the camera is shaking, so I could only assume the person holding it is. The idea that someone was told to "shake the camera really hard to make it look spooky" is hilarious and every time this happened, it took me out of the movie. Some of the effects also look objectively bad; there's this whole thing with snakes near the end which I also found really funny (look, Burmese and ball pythons do not live in Turkey. It just looks stupid).

Secondly, the movie is way too long. There's a lot of repetitiveness and it gets quite slow at times; I feel like there were at least three false endings and it got to a point of being very comical. The movie spends too much time meandering and not enough time on the central mystery, so it's all presented right at the end and it's hard to follow. I'm not Turkish, so maybe there's some cultural context there I'm missing, but there were several narrative threads that didn't really mesh for me.

I also found the protagonist - Dr. Ebru - to be extremely annoying by the end. Her insistence on a "rational explanation" actively undermines the movie because. aren't we all seeing the lights flicker and the room shake? Or is it literally her shaking the camera for effect? She denies to a point where you have to roll your eyes and it gets tiring.

So, this is a flawed movie, and I would recommend it, but it is in desperate need of an editor. There are apparently a whole bunch of these movies, so maybe a tighter film does exist in this series?

Didn't realize until after the fact that I was watching the fifth in a series, although I'm not sure it matters. Also, runtime is actually 2 hours and 12 minutes. Someone should probably fix that.

I had no idea what to expect going into this. I have seen a lot of horror films in my day but none from Turkey. Well, it actually is quite familiar in setting, set up, and tone to your average possession film. Swap Anytown, USA for Istanbul and a ghost for a djinn and you basically have this. Except not at all. Because this film is crazy. It toes a line between cheesy, with its overbearing and generic horror score and some OTP camerawork, and genuinely unsettling horror. Seriously, some of the scares in this got me more than anything I have seen in a long time. It conjures a lot of fear at first by teasing out little bits of horror and making your imagination run with it, before shoving the knife in, so to speak, with some disturbing uses of mirrors, dream sequences, and shadows. Some of the monstrous figures in this gave me shivers!

The performances are quite good. They really sell the horror and actually act like real people for the most part. The cinematography, while occasionally showy, is fantastic. The lighting is creative, the use of different lenses and formats to distort the frame and give it a dreamlike quality really add to the disorienting effect that Dilek feels throughout. I'm not sure how all of the visual effects were achieved, though I think a mix of in camera and CGI effects were used. Regardless, the whole thing has a very polished look that sucks you right into the world of the film. The narrative has a tendency to overexplain and the twist at the end felt really unnecessary, but overall was actually pretty damn gripping.

All in all, this was a really pleasant surprise. I might be inclined to check out the others in the series now!

great scenario! A nice job from Turkey in horror genre. I did not expect such a movie from a director in Turkey; but he did his best and he deserves a hooray ;) At the first, the film starts as if you're watching from the middle, but as the time elapse, all of the parts takes their places and form a big picture and at the end, you notice that you just watched a good movie and it was not a waste of time. this film has previous versions too but I've not watched them. but after watching this movie, I would prefer to go for them too, despite I'm not a good fan of a horror movies, specially the ones that is based on paranormal things. for those of you that don't speak Turkish, I wish you could find a subtitle and watch it, as it has a good story behind.

I saw this movie in the theater with a group of friends. We haven't seen a good scary movie for a long time in Turkish cinemas, but this movie full fill all my expectations.

Hasan Karacadag has done a great job in building the tension and suspense slowly and scaring the daylights out of us.

He knows Turkish people's deepest fears and was made to scare the hell out of you!

It has a good plot, characters and an actual storyline (unlike some other movies). very solid script. And This time karacadag keeps the CGI at a minimum. it told a lot of details about,Djinns,dreams,nightmares and religions!

Excellent set design and costumes as well.Sound design and music was OK.I loved how sparingly the music was used.

Definitely worth it if you like good scary movies with not much gratuitous violence.

Anyway good flick and fun to watch.

After watching Dabbe 3 and Dabbe 4, the director successfully displays his style throughout the series. Dabbe 5 has a similar story to the other films in the series however it differs in its twist, location and scares. In Dabbe 3 and 4 we see a slower progression in the films with the horror usually lying in the ending scenes. This changes in Dabbe: Zehr-i Cin. The film Begins on a horrifying note and is certainly more terrifying than its predecessors. The director of the series definitely evolves throughout the series. The classic Dabbe formula: combining science and religion, modern technology and ancient folklore using a western cinematic style and eastern cultural aspects is apparent in this film. I would recommend this film if the viewer enjoyed Dabbe 3 and 4. Scares: 8/10 Actors: 7/10 Story: 8.5/10 Overall: 8/10

After all those Paranormal activity movies, finally back to "normal" horror. Though the shrieking (annoying) sounds remain . not something I really look forward to or enjoy - of course they are not meant to be enjoyed, but you're catching my drift hopefully.

I didn't think too much while I was watching it, but I reckon the twists this has in store are quite predictable. Overall nicely told and a nice pace. With an annoying husband amogst other annoying characters. If you can oversee the flaws, the movie can be entertaining enough to be enjoyed. Simple ending included.

I'm true horror aficionado. I couldn't possibly ever count the number of horror films I've watched. My parents were horror aficionados so I've been watching since I was a little girl. Nothing has ever gotten to me besides when I was a little girl for some reason the movie The Blob really upset me LOL. Nowadays nothing bothers me and I've seen just about everything out there and I know that because of my injury I'm homebound I seen almost everything that Netflix has now. Unfortunately Netflix only has the number one, five, and six of the series. I just finished watching this one which is the number five, and I'm still trying to process what I just saw.

The thing that makes this series completely different from any other horror franchise, is it it takes not just Gore for the purpose of Gore like the saw franchise, as well as many other single movies, it uses it with a purpose. This franchise has creativity like The Nightmare on Elm Street franchise has however, it uses its creativity in a wholly realistic way that gets inside your mind and makes you think this could actually happen and that's so much more terrifying then any other movie out there that I've ever seen and as that said I've seen thousands horror movies! Also, this franchise is about Jinn, or genies as they are more commonly known, however as many know they don't go around granting wishes, they are more of a other race of beings cast aside by the Creator just like a lot of people don't realize that in some religious texts it is written that the Angels actually or cast aside by God when Man was created because Man was created in God's Own image and the angels weren't happy about that, and the angels aren't some man looking creature with wings that are white with fluffy feathers. They are more like harpies. So this tends to follow the ancient teachings about what these creatures really were.

I recommended the franchise to my husband by telling him that it takes the one thing that you fear the absolute worst, that if it would happen to you, you would beg to die to make it go away. That's the truth. This movie franchise actually digs into our Primal soul and finds what people fear the most, but also what people cherish the most, and attacks that. So it's really sad that this movie franchise hasn't been promoted more largely around the world. I don't mind reading subtitles, but if it were to have an English dub, I think it would have gone a long way towards getting the movie played in a much larger audience. I would really like to see that happen, then have a showing of the movies in theaters around the world, because I think a lot of people missed out on the scariest movie franchise ever! It is very rare that I hand out 10 Stars. This movie deserves more than 10 as does the rest of the movies that I've seen in this franchise! You MUST see the series if you're not afraid! Turn out the lights and watch it alone in the dark! There is a lot that you pick up on when you can hear more in the quiet, in the dark.

I just wrote a review on "D@bbe: The Possession" and thought I'd follow it up with one on this title as well. I was a little put off by the obviously fake reviews on here but decided to check these movies out on Netflix and glad I did. Demons scare the hell out of me, so these movies definitely had me jumping at times. These movies touch on "evil" in ways that hit a nerve with me - maybe because I'm a Christian? I'm not sure, but this director does a great job with making me uneasy. For some reason, the movies remind me of "Phantasm". They are a little campy, some weird directing choices, and have an "Indie" feel to them, but I still really enjoyed them. Onto "D@bbe 6"! Hoping it's as good as the other two.

I heard a lot about the Turkish Dabbe franchise and I had nr 5 for years in my to watch list on Netflix and now I finally had the time to take a look at it.

Must say, it wasn't that bad after all. First you have to got used to the way of acting, the Turkish language and of course the Muslim world of belief. And even there we have a Satan and possession and this is what this flick is all about.

Not bad at all, extreme flashy editing. A lot of creepy moments and a good script. Maybe over 2 hours is a bit too long but I never found a dull moment.

For the geeks it's one to discover but be open-minded to the Turkish world.

Classic Turkish jinn horror movies.

Scary but pointless.

It was an proper horror movie. The acting was fantastic, cinematography and sound effects were just mind blowing.

What this film may lack in Hollywood action it makes up for in sheer Turkish focus. A well acted film that is genuinly scarey and well worth a watch. Bit long however.

After an amazing entry (Dabbe: Cin Carpmasi), Hasan Karacadag decides to use the same repertoire and plot devices in a different setting, and fails miserably. It is eerie--he uses almost all the main themes and elements, minor and major, that it seems as if he had run out not only of ideas, but common sense as well.

The story is shallow, the dialog is tedious, the entire cast consists of cardboard characters with no development at all, and every single performance is either flat or campy. Cinematography looks cheap as well.

There is nothing to look for in this film, even the fans of the metaphysical element will find its inclusion rushed, half-cooked, and unnecessary to the story.

Was Karacadag forced to make this abomination of a film? Was it written and directed by an amateur fan of the franchise? I would not know. But it surely has been a very quick and short journey from the heaven of well-crafted film-making to the just-another-entry-for-sales dark pit of oblivion.

There's no mistake, Dabbe 5 sucks. Some kind of oriental demon is haunting a woman. That's the whole plot. Nothing is happening except talking about the demon, some nightmares and some paranormal activity. Poltergeist is scarier than this lame movie.

I am a fan of this series, but this film falls into the Hollywood trap of showing too many frightening images, scares and sound effects in an attempt to create horror. Not needed. Sometimes a disturbing story told well is more effective in scaring the audience than all the scare effects in the world.

This film looks like a rehash of all the ones before it in the series and has nothing much new to offer. After a point, the constant barrage of images and sounds starting wearing you out.

Plus the explanation given in the ending and how it all ties together was awful and convoluted. That's where the movie totally lost me. It didn't feel genuine at all and looked like a cheap stunt to create some twist in the story.

Acting was adequate; but the madman character introduced towards the end was pathetic. Not just the character, but the acting itself.

Decent story but the scares are awful. So many screams and shouts and its ear piercing. What a waste, the story is decent but the execution not so much.

Truly an awful film; Terrible acting, awful dialogue, shoddy camera work and editing. and that's just for starters. The whole thing just seemed to be thrown together randomly and reminded me of a very bad daytime soap or a film made by high school kids for a project.

The film is also excessively long so don't waste your time. it's not even in the "so bad, it's good" category!

It's quite obvious that a lot of the reviews for this and other films in the series are fake.

Theme is indeed good and that saves this film to a large extent. Performances are also commendable. If you do not mind time which is extraordinarily stretched and if you are game for gore, go for it.

This is the best horror movie I've ever seen. the Story & screenplay was really interesting..the acting was quite good and there are many twist & turns. the fear factor was really terrifying. but I got some negative thoughts , the movie was so long (02:12:55). there were a little boring in the middle. but after 1hr of the movie , the movie was really speed as jet. But this movie was interesting. there were some ritual scenes in the movie that was quite interesting. But I found a huge mistake in this movie , was why this movie contains many characters. but still this one is good.
