By admin

The Purple Magic Crape Myrtle is a highly sought-after flowering shrub that is known for its stunning purple blooms. Native to India and Southeast Asia, this plant has made its way into gardens and landscapes around the world. One of the standout features of the Purple Magic Crape Myrtle is its vibrant purple flowers. These blooms are produced in clusters and can cover the entire plant, creating a stunning display of color. The flowers appear in late spring or early summer and can last for several weeks, adding a burst of color to any garden. In addition to its beautiful flowers, the Purple Magic Crape Myrtle also offers attractive foliage.

Seasonally, Nature Hills offers hand selected, high quality bare root trees, shrubs and perennials. Bare root plants are sold by height from the top of the root system to the top of the plant. Plants may be taller than the height minimums.

Provide a very well-drained location with regular moisture access for your new plant, then after your plant is established, you should only need to supply supplemental moisture during extreme drought. Fertilize each spring with a flowering shrub fertilizer but keep lawn fertilizer away due to the high nitrogen causing excessive leafy growth and impeding flowering.

#ProPlantTips for Care:

Easy to grow Crape Myrtles, sometimes spelled as one word or as Crepe Myrtle, need full sun for the strongest growth and the most blooms! Provide a very well-drained location with regular moisture access for your new plant, then after your plant is established, you should only need to supply supplemental moisture during extreme drought. Topping the soil layer off with a 3-4 inch deep layer of arborist mulch will greatly reduce moisture evaporation and keep the roots cool in summer and insulated in the winter.

Purple Magic can be kept just about any size you'd like with yearly pruning in the early spring before it starts growing. Blooming on new wood, you can even trim your shrub close to the ground and watch as it bounces back quickly! Deadhead blooms to be gifted with a rebloom in late summer, or just to keep the shrub tidier.

Fertilize each spring with a flowering shrub fertilizer but keep lawn fertilizer away due to the high nitrogen causing excessive leafy growth and impeding flowering. As for powdery mildew, Crape Myrtles are developed with a strong resistance to it, but situating your shrub in the morning sun to dry the leaves and in an area with good air circulation helps significantly!

Reviews for "Benefits and Uses of Purple Magic Crepe Myrtle in Landscaping"

1. John - 2 stars - I was really disappointed with the Purple Magic Crepe Myrtle. The color of the flowers was not as vibrant and intense as I expected. They were more of a dull purple rather than the vibrant and bold purple that was advertised. Additionally, the tree did not bloom as profusely as other crepe myrtles I have seen. Overall, I don't think it lived up to the hype and I would not recommend it.
2. Sarah - 3 stars - While I didn't hate the Purple Magic Crepe Myrtle, I was underwhelmed by its performance in my garden. The tree did not grow as tall as I had expected, and the flowers were not as abundant as I had hoped. The color was nice, but nothing extraordinary. I have seen other crepe myrtles that were much more impressive in terms of growth and flowering. I wouldn't go out of my way to purchase this particular variety again.
3. David - 2 stars - I bought the Purple Magic Crepe Myrtle because of its supposed resistance to pest and disease, but I was disappointed to find that my tree was infested with aphids within a few weeks of planting. Despite my best efforts to control the infestation, the tree suffered and didn't bloom as well as it should have. I expected more from a variety that claimed to be pest-resistant. I would not recommend this particular crepe myrtle to others.
4. Emily - 2 stars - The Purple Magic Crepe Myrtle did not thrive in my garden like I had hoped. The tree had a hard time establishing itself and struggled to grow. The flowers were also smaller than I anticipated, and while the color was decent, it wasn't as striking as I had anticipated. I have had better experiences with other crepe myrtle varieties, and I won't be getting this one again. Disappointing overall.
