Once upon a time, in a faraway kingdom, there existed a beautiful princess named Snow White. She possessed radiant fair skin, lips as red as rubies, and hair as ebony as the night. Snow White's beauty was a constant source of envy for a malevolent witch who resided deep within the dark forest. This malevolent witch, known as the Evil Queen, was consumed by jealousy and could not bear the thought of Snow White's beauty surpassing her own. Determined to be the fairest of them all, she devised a treacherous plan to eliminate Snow White from existence. The Evil Queen morphed into an old hag and sought out Snow White, disguised as a kind-hearted old woman.
In "Salem Witch Trials," we see cartload after cartload of women hauled out to the hanging tree and executed, their meaningless deaths accompanied by still more screaming, wailing and rolling about on the ground by onlookers.
At least in Michael Reeves s 1968 cult classic The Conqueror Worm, about fanatical witch hunts in England, Vincent Price as the Witchfinder General is hacked to bits in the final frames by the boyfriend of one of his victims. The film is inordinately depressing because viewers even slightly familiar with the story know that a happy ending is pretty much out of the question and that the truly guilty won t be suitably punished.
The Evil Queen morphed into an old hag and sought out Snow White, disguised as a kind-hearted old woman. She approached the innocent princess with a poisoned apple, promising it would grant her eternal beauty. Snow White, unaware of the witch's true intentions, took a bite of the apple and fell into a deep sleep, as if dead.
