Table Talk: What’s New in the Coastal Bend Food & Drink World this October

In our monthly Table Talk series, we gather local food and drink news into one place for your convenience. From a food truck finding a permanent home to local food options coming to the Corpus Christi International Airport, here’s what we’ve got our eyes on in the Coastal Bend food and drink scene this month.

Several Local Restaurants to Open inside Corpus Christi International Airport

In late September, Corpus Christi City Council approved a lease agreement allowing local businesses to set up shop inside the Corpus Christi International Airport (CCIA). Local food and beverage options such as Island Joes Coffee and Gallery, Salty Oak BBQ and Nueces Brewing and Barbecueing will bring a much-needed revamp to the current cuisine options on site. The new eateries will be located throughout the airport in areas both before and after TSA. While there isn’t a specific opening date announced for each business, they are expected to be added to the airport one at a time over the next couple of years.

Most Comida Food Truck Plans for Brick-and-Mortar Location

The popular food truck recently announced its plans to move into a more permanent location in a video posted to Facebook. Well-known for its Most Burger and Rick Rolls, Most Comida will be located inside a new sports bar on the Southside called Riley’s Pub. Come November, the local business will primarily serve its food from Riley’s but will still actively pop up with the food truck at local festivals and events, as well as continue offering special catering services.

New Champs Meat Market Location Opening this Month

Champs Meat Market owners Christian Ockels and Jason Peeler have been in the Coastal Bend food scene for decades. The mainstay local meat market’s expansion plans finally come to fruition this month with the opening of its new Southside location in the Star Plaza on Oct. 14. The new, “mega-market” will feature grab-and-go meats, a butcher counter, multiple dry agers, prepared foods, a walk-in beer cooler, a full selection of wines and more.

The Roughian to Host Several Themed Dinners in October

The Roughian is no stranger to hosting themed-dinner parties and this month’s events have a Halloween or fall theme in mind. The Lucky 13 Dinner, hosted on Oct. 13, will feature a menu curated with witchy vibes in mind, complete with Deviled Eggs, Practically Magic Beef Ribs and Polenta, Midnight Margarita Coulis and more. Then, on Oct. 21, A New York City Fall-themed dinner will include Bleu and Bacon Roasted Potatoes, Chicken Forestier, Beef en Weck and Creme Brulee. Rounding out the month’s dinners are Halloweek – Favorite Fantasy Feast on Oct. 27 and Halloweek – A Dark Feast on Oct. 28. The former will focus on fantastical lore and the latter will feature a hauntingly delicious spread. Even with several options to choose from this month, you’ll want to reserve your seats as soon as possible!

Butter’s BBQ’s Hands-On Briskett Course

Back by popular demand, Butter’s BBQ is hosting another brisket and BBQ workshop this month on Oct. 29. In a one-day, 12-hour course, participants will learn how to cook a full brisket from start to finish. Bonus: you keep what you cook! Hosted by Butter’s BBQ’s very own pitmaster Andrew Soto, the course will cover everything from fire and smoker temperature management to the perfect trim, season, wrap and slice techniques. Participants will be provided with an Angus prime brisket, trimming knife and mat, seasonings, gloves and butcher paper – all you have to bring is something to take notes with and a willingness to learn. The class accommodates a small number of people, so be sure to reserve your spot.
