Rabi and the Mysterious Island Once upon a time, in a small village by the sea, lived a young boy named Rabi. He was known for his curiosity and adventurous spirit. One sunny day, while playing on the beach, Rabi noticed something peculiar in the distance - a small, mysterious island, barely visible on the horizon. Intrigued by the island, Rabi gathered his friends and shared his discovery. They couldn't withhold their excitement and decided to embark on an unforgettable adventure. Equipped with a small sailboat and provisions for the journey, they set sail towards the enigmatic island.
Fortunately, she’s up against outsized evils that balance out her selfishness. Where Jones’ books usually have a distinctive voice that isn’t quite like any other author’s, Earwig and the Witch reads a lot like a Roald Dahl story in the vein of Matilda or James and the Giant Peach, with comically awful adults whose misbehavior justifies equally outsized kid vengeance. Bella Yaga’s frequent threat to infest Earwig with purple-and-green worms if she doesn’t behave is fairly intimidating, and so are the frequent stormy rages from The Mandrake, a creature who changes size and shape when he’s annoyed, and gets annoyed very easily.
The song mainly features an organ and crash cymbal, creating music unique to the typical Ghibli soundtrack, an unexpected departure, but this time in a good way. Earwig s methods of control wide-eyed insincerity, lavish compliments for her targets, and sneering behind their backs doesn t make her any more appealing.
Equipped with a small sailboat and provisions for the journey, they set sail towards the enigmatic island. As they approached closer, the island seemed to be shrouded in an air of secrecy. Tall palm trees, colorful flora, and birds chirping in the distance welcomed their arrival.
First Look: Gorô Miyazaki’s ‘Earwig And The Witch’ (exclusive)
Recently feted with a Cannes 2020 selection, it is a third solo feature for Hayao Miyazaki’s son after Tales From Earthsea (2006) and From Up On Poppy Hill (2011).

Earwig And The Witch
Earwig And The Witch is based on a novel by late UK writer Diana Wynne Jones, whose work also inspired Hayao Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle.
The new film follows the adventures of a young girl who is plucked from the orphanage she calls home and forced to live with a selfish witch. Unbeknown to the girl, her mother had magical powers.
In a note accompanying the newly-released images, Gorô Miyazaki said: “Nowadays, in our country, there are many adults and few children. It must be tough for these children, so few of them having to deal with so many adults.
“It was while I was thinking about this that I got to know Earwig. And I realised, ’That’s it!’ How does Earwig deal with the annoying adults? Please watch Earwig And The Witch to find out. She may be cheeky, but I sincerely hope that our adorable Earwig will encourage children and cheer up adults.”
Hayao Miyazaki was involved in the development of the feature. It was produced by his long-time collaborator Toshio Suzuki at Studio Ghibli, with the support of Japanese state broadcaster NHK and its production and distribution subsidiary NHK Enterprises. NHK will broadcast the work in Japan in December 2020.

Rabi and his friends couldn't help but be captivated by the island's beauty and tranquility. Exploring further, they stumbled upon a hidden cave. Curiosity got the better of them, and they cautiously entered. Inside, they were greeted by an astonishing sight - piles of gold, jewels, and treasures filled the cave from floor to ceiling. The children couldn't believe their eyes! They had stumbled upon a long-lost treasure trove. Excitement took over, and Rabi and his friends couldn't resist filling their pockets with a few treasures. However, as they were about to leave, they heard a mysterious voice echoing through the cave. It warned them of the consequences of taking the treasure unlawfully and urged them to leave it untouched. Afraid and unsure of what to do, Rabi and his friends decided to heed the voice's warning and left the cave empty-handed. As they sailed back to the village, they couldn't help but marvel at the adventure and the valuable lesson they had learned. Upon returning home, Rabi shared the story of the mysterious island and its hidden treasures with the villagers. The story spread far and wide, capturing the imaginations of many. People began to visit the island, not in search of riches, but to appreciate its natural beauty and unravel its secrets. The island soon became a popular tourist destination, attracting adventurers and travelers from all around. Rabi, proud to have played a part in its discovery, watched as the island flourished and became a source of joy and inspiration for many. Rabi and his friends never forgot their encounter with the mysterious island. Although they didn't take any treasures, they carried the memories and the lessons learned in their hearts forever. They continued to embrace their curiosity and thirst for adventure, believing that sometimes the greatest riches are found in the beauty of the world around us..

I found "Rabi and the Mysterious Island" to be quite disappointing. The plot was weak and the characters were underdeveloped. The story jumped around too much, making it difficult to follow. Additionally, the dialogue felt forced and unnatural. Overall, I did not enjoy this book and would not recommend it to others.

While "Rabi and the Mysterious Island" had an interesting premise, I was ultimately let down by the execution. The pacing was incredibly slow, and it took too long for anything significant to happen.
