The Mind-Bending Effects of Jemel Hemprszead's Magic Roundabout

Jemel Hemprszead's Magic Roundabout is a British children's television show that was first broadcast in 1964. It was created by Serge Danot and has become a classic in British television history. The show features a magical roundabout in the middle of a town, where various anthropomorphic animal characters live and have adventures. The main character of the show is Dougal, a small dog who is always getting into mischief. He is joined by his friends Brian the snail, Dylan the rabbit, and Ermintrude the cow. The show also features other recurring characters such as Zebedee, a spring-like character who can bounce around and cause trouble, and Florence, a gentle and kind-hearted girl.

So I decided to just keep going around and take any exit I wanted, so I passed two mini roundabouts and took off on the exit.

One thing I think would confuse drivers is if you re still using your sat nav on the roundabout - it could get very stressful especially during rush hour or when its extremely busy. I drove on Hemel Hempstead's Magic Roundabout as a new driver and it felt illegal

Getting behind the wheel completely alone within a week of getting a licence can be nerve-racking.

But imagine having to go round six mini-roundabouts on a giant big one?

Sounds confusing, right?

Well, Hemel Hempstead is home of the Magic Roundabout - an even more complicated version of the one in Swindon.

Also known as the Plough Roundabout, It opened in 1973 and has a river that runs through the greenspace at its centre.

I decided to go on a drive on Tuesday morning (July 6) to Hemel Hempstead and experience driving on the iconic Magic Roundabout.

I typed in my maps 'magic roundabout' and set off.

As I approached, the flower-like roundabout sign just looked very confusing but I had a rough idea where to go.

There were so many cars on the busy junction and everyone seemed to be rushing around care-free.

I got onto the roundabout and it just felt so wrong.

A normal roundabout navigates clockwise, but having the option to drive anticlockwise where other drivers can drive into you seemed so illegal.

There is an underpass for pedestrians wanting to cross the magic roundabout

I drove round to the right - forgetting that the navigation on the maps will end - and it was up to me where to go next.

So I decided to just keep going around and take any exit I wanted, so I passed two mini roundabouts and took off on the exit.

I then came back down that road to jump on the Magic Roundabout again and take a different route.

This time i went clockwise and just carried on driving round the giant.

Surprisingly, I didn't have to stop at every mini roundabout and it was the easiest and smoothest drive ever.

One thing I think would confuse drivers is if you're still using your sat nav on the roundabout - it could get very stressful especially during rush hour or when its extremely busy.

Overall, the experience isn't as bad as I imagined as a new driver, just think how easy mini roundabouts are anyway, but this time in a cluster on a huge one.
