For 30+ years, the University of Memphis's trusty mascot has been TOM the Bengal Tiger [& co.]. First appearing in '72, TOM I was followed by TOM II and TOM III - the latter of whom sadly passed in 2020. But, despite TOM III's absence, the school still proudly boasts Pouncer the costumed Tiger mascot. To honor their centennial, U of M's Alumni Association even placed 50 tiger statues on campus & in the greater Memphis area!

1. Sarah - 1/5 stars - I found the Memphis Tigers mascot to be incredibly unappealing and poorly designed. Not only was the costume lackluster and outdated, but it also looked cheap. The tiger itself was not intimidating or fierce, rather it appeared more like a cuddly stuffed animal. Overall, I was disappointed with the mascot and feel that it does not represent the spirit and energy of the Memphis Tigers as a sports team.
2. John - 2/5 stars - As a longtime fan of the Memphis Tigers, I was really hoping for a mascot that would ignite excitement and rally the crowd during games. Unfortunately, the current mascot falls short in both appearance and performance. The design of the costume is cumbersome and it's difficult to make out any defining features of a tiger. Additionally, the person wearing the costume lacks energy and enthusiasm, which fails to inspire the fans. The Memphis Tigers deserve a mascot that is vibrant and energetic, and unfortunately, the current one simply does not deliver.
3. Emily - 1/5 stars - I was highly disappointed with the Memphis Tigers mascot. It is outdated, uninspiring, and easily forgettable. The costume lacks attention to detail and it looks like it was thrown together without much thought or effort. The whole purpose of a mascot is to rally and excite the crowd, but this mascot falls flat on all accounts. I hope the University considers a redesign and invests in a mascot that truly embodies the spirit and pride of the Memphis Tigers.

The costume is not visually appealing and the tiger itself lacks any distinctive features. It feels like a generic representation of a tiger rather than a unique and engaging mascot. I believe the Memphis Tigers could benefit from a redesign that brings more energy and enthusiasm to the team's events.
