Rigoletto is an opera composed by Giuseppe Verdi. It is based on the play "Le roi s'amuse" by Victor Hugo. The opera tells the tragic story of Rigoletto, a hunchbacked court jester in the court of the Duke of Mantua. Rigoletto is a complex character who is both disliked and pitied by those around him. The Duke is known for his womanizing ways and Rigoletto aids him in his endeavors. However, Rigoletto's life takes a turn for the worse when he becomes the target of a curse.

Rigoletto's suffering begins when he discovers that the Duke has set his sights on his own daughter, Gilda. Rigoletto tries to protect her from the Duke's advances but ultimately fails. Gilda falls in love with the Duke and sacrifices herself to save him from an assassination plot. The tragic ending sees Gilda being mistaken for the Duke and becoming the victim of an assassination instead. Rigoletto is devastated by his daughter's death and realizes the true extent of his curse. He vows revenge on the Duke and hires an assassin to kill him. In the final act, Rigoletto confronts the Duke and reveals his plan for revenge. However, the assassin tricks Rigoletto and mistakenly kills Gilda instead. Rigoletto is left alone, broken and hopeless. The opera Rigoletto explores themes of power, morality, and the consequences of one's actions.
