Meet Scrotie: The Controversial College Sports Mascot You've Never Heard Of

By admin

Scrotie the sports mascot is a unique and controversial figure in the world of sports. He is the official mascot of the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), a prestigious art and design college located in Providence, Rhode Island. However, unlike most college mascots, Scrotie is not a typical animal or human character. Scrotie is a giant penis, complete with testicles and pubic hair, wearing a red cape and a conical hat. His appearance is meant to be humorous and satirical, reflecting the irreverent and avant-garde spirit of RISD. Despite his unconventional design, Scrotie has become an iconic figure within the RISD community.

Yes. A scrotum. Long before the Flyers unleashed their hideous Gritty mascot into the world, the RISD student body came up with their own hideous, unofficial mascot to cheer on their teams. In 2001, Scrotie was born out of scrap materials and became an instant hit.

Despite his unconventional design, Scrotie has become an iconic figure within the RISD community. He has been the mascot of the school's hockey team, the Nads, since 2001. The name "Nads" is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the genitalia theme embodied by Scrotie.

Rhode Island School of Design students love their Nads and Balls

I've long thought Stanford University had the best mascot. I mean, how can you beat a dancing tree -- sometimes palm, sometimes pine -- that's always high as a kite?

Well, the Rhode Island School of Design has put the dancing tree to shame. We're not talking Div. I here. Heck, we're not even talking Div. III. But the mascots for the schools two athletic teams are quite unique. The hockey team is called the "Nads," and has been for decades. Yet it's only been in the last dozen years that their mascot, Scrotie, has appeared on the scene to accompany the "Go Nads" chants. He even got a new look a couple years ago (below). It gives new meaning to "cocky mascot." You can see videos of Scrotie in action below.

The basketball team is slightly less scandalous, simply calling themselves the "Balls." But somehow, on all of their T-shirts and marketing materials, they manage to put two balls next to one another. Slogans like "Support Your Balls" are not uncommon on campus. Oh those crazy college kids.

Scrotie's presence at RISD hockey games has generated mixed reactions. Some people find him amusing and consider him a symbol of the school's unique and creative identity. Others criticize him as inappropriate and offensive, arguing that his explicit design is not suitable for a family-friendly sporting event. The controversy surrounding Scrotie has prompted discussions about the boundaries of mascots in sports and the role they play in representing an institution. Some argue that mascots should be inclusive and inoffensive, while others believe they can push boundaries and challenge societal norms. Ultimately, Scrotie the sports mascot serves as a symbol of RISD's unconventional and provocative nature. Whether admired or criticized, he has undoubtedly left a lasting impression on those who have encountered him..

Reviews for "Scrotie: Love Him or Hate Him, You Can't Ignore This Sports Mascot"

- Emma - 1 out of 5 stars - I was really excited to attend the game and cheer on my favorite team, but when I saw Scrotie, I was completely appalled. It's hard to believe that such a vulgar and offensive mascot exists. It was even worse when I realized children were present at the game. The fact that the team thinks this is acceptable and promotes such a tasteless character is highly disappointing. I would never recommend attending a game where Scrotie is the mascot.
- Jason - 2 out of 5 stars - As a sports fan, I appreciate a good mascot that brings energy and excitement to the game. However, Scrotie takes it to a whole new level that is just uncomfortable and inappropriate. The sexual innuendos and explicit nature of the mascot are not suitable for a family-friendly environment. I was hoping for a fun and entertaining experience, but I was left cringing every time Scrotie made an appearance. I hope the team reconsiders their choice of mascot and chooses something more appropriate for all audiences.
- Sarah - 1 out of 5 stars - Scrotie the sports mascot is the epitome of poor taste and lack of creativity. It's sad to see a team rely on such a derogatory and offensive character to represent them. The design and concept of Scrotie are repulsive, and it diminishes any respect I had for the team. I can't understand how anyone thought this was a good idea, especially considering the diverse fan base and the potential young audience. I won't be supporting any team that aligns itself with a mascot like Scrotie.
