The Last Witch Hunter 2015: A Unique Take on Modern Witchhunting

By admin

The Last Witch Hunter is an action-fantasy film released in 2015. The movie is directed by Breck Eisner and stars Vin Diesel in the lead role. The story is set in a world where witches exist and threaten humanity. Vin Diesel plays Kaulder, the last remaining witch hunter who is tasked with keeping the supernatural creatures in check. The film begins with a prologue that takes place in the Middle Ages, where Kaulder is shown hunting down the powerful Witch Queen who is responsible for the Black Death. In a fierce battle, Kaulder manages to kill her, but not before she curses him with immortality.

After Vin’s character kicks some butt and deals with some mind-trickery involving his dead daughter, he kills the witch queen and she curses him to live with his grief for eternity. After this we move 800 years forwards in time (the plague didn’t start in Europe until around 1350 and it came from the south not the north but meh they get the tone right, it’s not a documentary)

The Film really tackles the immortality thing well too, this is before Deadpool remember, they focus on pain, mental trickery and deception as obstacles for the protagonist. Here we have, in my view, an incredibly well executed scene that provides both suspense, and when the action begins, accurately conveys the chaos and strangeness of the foe they face.

In a fierce battle, Kaulder manages to kill her, but not before she curses him with immortality. Fast forward to present day, Kaulder continues to serve as a witch hunter working for an organization known as the Axe and Cross. Kaulder is aided by a group of priests known as the Dolan, who have been tasked with assisting him in his mission.

The Middling Earth: The Last Witch Hunter (2015)

Once upon a time, in a world beyond our own, there was an article on Film Stories. Prompted by my love for Two Star Fantasy Films, I explored why I was fond of these adventures and why they are still valid in this cinematic landscape. Yet I was not satisfied by this adventure!

Through weekly podcasts and articles, I shall head forth on a quest to explore the magical and the mediocre as we explore The Middling Earth!

Vin Diesel is such a familiar face in the two-star film realm. Whilst he doesn’t keep strictly to the fantasy genre, he definitely flits through mediocre movies such as Chronicles of Riddick, XXX, and, more recently, Bloodshot. With his smooth-head, Diesel has made his mark with the speedy Fast and Furious series and voicing tree Groot in the Avengers series, but we cannot forget his contributions to two-star lore!

One of the more recent outings was the very misaligned fantasy epic The Last Witch Hunter. And I don’t mean to get personal but I fucking love every second of it.

Directed by Breck Eisner, The Last Witch Hunter revolves around Coulder, a Viking warrior who murdered the Witch Queen 800 years ago. However, in doing so, he accidentally became immortal. As the centuries pass, Coulder has spent this time battling other witches and magical creatures for monk-led group the Order of the Axe and Cross. When his Dolan (a watcher,) is seemingly murdered, Coulder has to face the possible new ascension of the Witch Queen. To fight her once more, Coulder enlists the help of the 37 th Dolan, and witch Chloe. Can they stop the rise of evil once more?

The 36th Dolan, played by Michael Caine, is nearing retirement and has chosen a new young priest as his successor, the 37th Dolan, played by Elijah Wood. However, before his retirement, the 36th Dolan is mysteriously killed, and Kaulder sets out to find the culprit. As Kaulder investigates, he realizes that the Witch Queen he killed centuries ago may have returned and is seeking revenge. He teams up with a witch named Chloe, played by Rose Leslie, who possesses the ability to enter people's memories. Together, they uncover a plot by a powerful witch known as Belial to resurrect the Witch Queen and unleash a plague upon humanity. The film takes audiences on a thrilling journey as Kaulder battles witches, uncovers dark secrets, and confronts his own past. The Last Witch Hunter combines action, fantasy, and supernatural elements to create an engaging and entertaining experience for viewers. Overall, The Last Witch Hunter is an action-packed and visually stunning film that showcases Vin Diesel's charismatic performance as a fearless witch hunter. The movie offers a unique twist on the traditional witchcraft genre and delivers an exciting adventure filled with magic and mayhem..
