Making Waves: Carnival Magic's Last Refurbishment and its Impact

By admin

Carnival Magic, a popular cruise ship operated by Carnival Cruise Line, was last refurbished in 2016. The refurbishment took place at the Navantia shipyard in Cadiz, Spain. During this refurbishment, several enhancements and upgrades were made to various areas of the ship to improve the overall guest experience. Some of the areas that received attention during the refurbishment included the staterooms, dining venues, entertainment facilities, and recreational areas. The refurbishment aimed to provide guests with a refreshed and modernized environment on board the Carnival Magic. Since then, the ship has continued to provide enjoyable and memorable cruising experiences to its passengers.

Carnival Magic completes dry-dock, debuting all-new Carnival Cruise Line livery

Carnival Magic has left dry-dock at the shipyard in Marseilles, France, revealing the new Carnival Cruise Line livery that is being rolled out across the fleet.

Carnival Magic is the first ship in the Carnival Cruise Line fleet to get the new livery, which is based on the hull colour scheme that was first introduced aboard the new Mardi Gras.

Carnival Magic with the new livery

The Dream-class Carnival Magic completed her dry dock on May 24th, and has now been replaced in the shipyard by Carnival Glory, which will also receive the new livery, in addition to other upgrades during the refit.

Carnival Magic’s refit and refurbishment was fairly light, with some cosmetic changes made to the ship’s public rooms, such as new carpets and soft furnishing, while the casino was also expanded to include more slot machines.

The WaterWorks aqua park and pool areas also got some updates. This was the first refit and refubishment of Carnival Magic since 2016.

She is the first cruise ship (after Mardi Gras) to sail with Carnival’s shiny new red, white and blue livery, which is both a nod to the iconic carnival colors and the traditional navy-blue colours of officer uniforms, while also channeling the colour palette of the American flag.

The new livery is based on that of Mardi Gras, the line’s new flagship

The new livery was announced just after Carnival Cruise Line dismissed rumours that it might move homeports from the US to the Caribbean due to the ongoing (at that time) suspension of US cruises by the CDC.

During an interview, Christine Duffy, President & CEO of Carnival Cruise Line, said that the company was “America’s cruise line” and would always sail from US ports.

The line’s patience paid off, as it was recently given permission to resume US cruises this July, and the livery appears to be a clear statement about Carnival Cruise Line’s roots.

With the situation on resuming cruises from the US remaining fluid and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) making ongoing updates to its Conditional Sailing Order, Carnival Magic’s return is not yet decided.

For now, Carnival plans on resuming cruises with just four ships in July. In the following months, even more vessels will begin to restart cruises.

Carnival Ships By Age: Newest to Oldest (2024)

Carnival Cruise Line has been around since 1972, with the first cruise setting sail on March 11, 1972. Since then, the cruising industry has changed dramatically. In fact, the original Mardi Gras was advertised as being 27,000 gross tons, while her namesake which was launched in 2021 is a little over 180,000 gross registered tons.

Today's newest ships tend to have the most onboard amenities, whether it is an increased number of dining venues and bars or one-of-a-kind attractions at sea like the roller coaster BOLT. Some cruisers, however, prefer older ships due to their smaller size, as they have a more intimate feel and often visit destinations that are unable to accommodate the larger mega-ships.

Whether you are a fan of newer or older ships, Carnival's fleet of 24 has a ship that will satisfy every type of traveler. Here is a list of Carnival's ships by age as of 2024.

Since then, the ship has continued to provide enjoyable and memorable cruising experiences to its passengers..

The oldest ship in Carnival's fleet is Carnival Sunshine. When she began sailing in 1996, however, she was Carnival Destiny and was the first cruise ship to ever exceed 100,000 gross tons. In 2013, she underwent a major refurbishment and was renamed Carnival Sunshine.

Reviews for "Unmasking the Beauty: A Closer Look at Carnival Magic's Last Refurbishment"

1. John - 2/5 stars: I recently went on the Carnival Magic and was disappointed to find that it hadn't been refurbished in quite some time. The ship felt old and worn down, with dated decor and furnishings. The cabins were cramped and could use an update. The amenities were lacking compared to other cruise ships I've been on. Overall, I was not impressed with the condition of the ship and would not recommend it to others looking for a modern and luxurious experience.
2. Sarah - 3/5 stars: I had high expectations for the Carnival Magic, but was left underwhelmed by the lack of refurbishment. The ship appears outdated and in need of a makeover. The common areas and restaurant spaces were worn and showed signs of wear and tear. The entertainment options were limited and not up to par with other cruise ships I've been on. While the staff was friendly and accommodating, the ship itself could use some serious updates to better compete with newer and more luxurious ships in the industry.
3. Mark - 2/5 stars: The lack of refurbishment on the Carnival Magic was evident throughout my cruise experience. The ship's interior felt worn and tired. The dining options were limited and lacked the variety and quality I expected. The entertainment on board was mediocre at best, and the overall atmosphere felt lackluster. For those looking for a modern and refreshed cruise experience, I would not recommend choosing the Carnival Magic until it receives a much-needed refurbishment.
