In 2018, Orlando Magic made significant changes to their roster in order to improve their performance on the court. The team had missed the playoffs for several consecutive seasons and was in need of a shake-up. The front office made a number of trades and acquisitions in an attempt to put together a more competitive team. One of the key moves made by the Magic was the acquisition of guard Jerian Grant from the Chicago Bulls. Grant was seen as a young and talented player who could provide a boost to the team's backcourt. Additionally, the Magic brought in guard Timofey Mozgov from the Brooklyn Nets in a trade that also involved center Bismack Biyombo.

The Magic also made a significant move on draft night, selecting forward Mohamed Bamba with the sixth overall pick. Bamba was considered one of the top prospects in the draft, known for his shot-blocking ability and defensive skills.

The addition of Bamba was seen as a long-term investment in the team's future. In addition to these acquisitions, the Magic also made some notable departures from their roster. Forward Mario Hezonja, who had been with the team since being drafted fifth overall in 2015, signed with the New York Knicks as a free agent. Hezonja had shown promise during his time with the Magic, but ultimately did not live up to expectations. Overall, the 2018 Orlando Magic roster was a mix of new additions and familiar faces. The team hoped that these changes would lead to a turnaround and a return to the playoffs. However, the season did not go as planned, and the Magic ended up missing the playoffs once again.
