Embracing the Goddess Within: Symbolism in Pagan Patches

By admin

Pagan patches are decorative symbols or motifs that are often used in modern Pagan and magical practices. These patches are typically embroidered, and they can be sewn onto clothing, bags, or altar cloths. Pagan patches often feature symbols that are associated with specific Pagan traditions or deities. Some common symbols include the pentagram, the triquetra, the triple goddess symbol, and the wheel of the year. These symbols hold deep spiritual meaning for many Pagans, and wearing or displaying them can be a way to show one's connection to their faith. In addition to religious symbols, Pagan patches can also feature images of animals, plants, or other elements of nature.

Of all historic records describing Slavic gods, those mentioning Perun are the most numerous. As early as the 6th century, he was mentioned in De Bello Gothico, a historical source written by the Eastern Roman historian Procopius. A short note describing beliefs of a certain South Slavic tribe states they acknowledge that one god, creator of lightning, is the only lord of all: to him do they sacrifice an ox and all sacrificial animals. While the name of the god is not mentioned here explicitly, 20th century research has established beyond doubt that the god of thunder and lightning in Slavic mythology is Perun.[5] To this day the word perun in a number of Slavic languages means "thunder," or "lightning bolt".
Figurine of Perun from Veliky Novgorod, 12-century.

The Primary Chronicle relates that in the year 6415 (907 AD) prince Oleg (Old Norse: Helgi) made a peace treaty with the Byzantine Empire and by taking his men to the shrines and swearing by their weapons and by their god Perun, and by Volos, the god of cattle, they confirmed the treaty. We find the same form of confirmation of a peace treaty by prince Igor in 945. In 980, when prince Vladimir the Great came to the throne of Kiev, he erected statues of five pagan gods in front of his palace which he soon thereafter discarded after his Christianization in 988. Perun was chief among these, represented with a silver head and a golden moustache.[5]: 133- Vladimir's uncle Dobrynya also had a shrine of Perun established in his city of Novgorod. After the Christianization of Kievan Rus, this place became a monastery, which, quite remarkably, continued to bear the name of Perun.

Perun is not mentioned directly in any of the records of Western Slavic traditional religion, but a reference to him is perhaps made in a short note in Helmold's Chronica Slavorum, written in the latter half of the 12th century, which states (quite similarly to Procopius some six centuries earlier) that Slavic tribes, even though they worship many various gods, all agree there is a supreme god in heaven which rules over all other on earth. This could be a reference to Perun, but since he is not named, nor any of his chief attributes (thunder or lightning) mentioned, we cannot be certain.

Slavic traditions preserved very ancient elements and intermingled with those of neighbouring European peoples. An exemplary case are the South Slavic still-living rain rituals Perperuna and Dodola of the couple Perun–Perperuna/Perunika, Lord and Lady Thunder, shared with the neighbouring Albanians, Greeks and Arumanians, corresponding to the Germanic Fjörgynn–Fjörgyn, the Lithuanian Perkūnas/Dundulis–Perkūna, and finding similarities in the Vedic hymns to Parjanya.

Pagan patches

They can also be used to enhance ritual or magical practice. For example, a patch with a symbol of protection could be sewn onto a bag or pouch that is used for carrying magical tools or talismans. Some Pagans may choose to sew or collect specific patches as a way to commemorate important milestones or events in their spiritual journey. For example, a patch that represents a specific deity may be added after connecting with that deity during a ritual or meditation. Pagan patches are widely available online or at metaphysical shops, but some practitioners prefer to make their own. Making your own patch can add a personalized touch and can be a creative and meditative practice. Overall, Pagan patches are a versatile and meaningful way to express one's spirituality, connect with nature, and enhance one's magical practice. Whether worn or displayed on clothing or accessories, these patches can serve as reminders of one's beliefs and help create a connection to the divine and the natural world..

Reviews for "Fashionable Folklore: Incorporating Pagan Patches into Everyday Style"

1. Jane - 1 star - I was really disappointed with my purchase of "Pagan patches". The patches were cheaply made and the designs were not as vibrant as they appeared in the pictures online. Additionally, the adhesive on the patches was very weak, causing them to easily fall off after just a short period of time. I wouldn't recommend these patches to anyone looking for quality and durability.
2. Mike - 2 stars - I had high hopes for the "Pagan patches" based on the positive reviews I read online, but I was ultimately disappointed with the product. The patches arrived with small tears and frayed edges, giving them a shoddy appearance. The stitching on some patches was also uneven, making them look poorly made. Overall, I expected better quality for the price I paid.
3. Sarah - 2 stars - The "Pagan patches" I received were not what I expected at all. The colors were dull and faded, and some patches had noticeable printing errors. The sizing of the patches was also inconsistent, making it difficult to create a cohesive look when applying them to clothing or accessories. I won't be purchasing from this brand again.
4. David - 1 star - I regret buying the "Pagan patches". The patches arrived with a strong chemical odor that was unpleasant and lingered even after airing them out. The material of the patches felt cheap and flimsy, and they started peeling off after just a few uses. The poor quality and chemical smell made me question the safety of these patches, and I would not recommend them to anyone.
5. Emily - 2 stars - I was not impressed with the "Pagan patches" I received. The adhesive backing on the patches did not stick well and required additional glue for them to stay in place. Some of the patches also arrived with loose threads and frayed edges, making them look unprofessional. Overall, I was disappointed with the quality and would not purchase from this brand again.
