It's time to stop believing that spending time on yourself is selfish. It's not true. Self-care is essential for your mental health, and is particularly important as we get older. Developing good self-care habits will not only help with stress and anxiety, but will ease symptoms of chronic pain, feelings of loneliness, and generally help you feel calmer. For me, daily self-care includes starting the day with my journal and setting an intention for the day ahead. It includes regular movement throughout the day (walking, yoga, stretching, etc.). Lately I've been re-discovering classic books. Even allowing 10-15 minutes of reading for pleasure has made a huge difference. I used to love cross-stitching and quilting but over the years I didn't believe I had time for them. Guess what? I've made the time to re-acquaint myself, a few minutes at a time.
