Battling the Unknown: How the Reliable Rune of Shielding Can Save Lives

The reliable rune of shielding is a powerful enchantment that provides a significant increase in defensive capabilities. Michal sent me the pdf and I quickly made it up with cards I had around. I loved his Polish Poker effect so I jumped on this. Misdeal is a fun magical take on the ten-card poker deal. I really like it! It's simple to do, has great presentation opportunities, and really packs a magical punch at the end. With not much work you can even end clean. Passed the wife test! She loves magic, and isn't at all concerned with figuring things out. just loves good presentations and the "amazement factor." I will definitely carry this and work it into one of my close-up poker-themed sets.

I also received a review copy. It is a fresh approach to a poker-themed effect that appeals to me - it involves a 10-card poker deal effect, a sucker effect, and a card change effect blended together in an interesting way.

It has many surprise moments as cards magically change using a combination of relatively simple sleights and gaffs.
The spectator will feel like they’ve had a free choice of their cards as justified by the head-to-head theme. There’s a lot of mileage for a packet trick.

Anyone who's familiar with my work knows that I have a soft spot for mathematical principles, faro shuffles etc. I don't shy away from the weird and quirky.

Misdeal, however, is a bit different. In my opinion, it has the elements of a strong, commercial trick.

I think Mike is saying that this is the most commercial trick that *he* has put out. It requires a table as written, but I think with some audience management you could get spectators to hold cards for you where needed.

In many head-to-head poker routines, you deal out cards two at a time, let the spectator choose one, then drop the packet on the other one. That always seemed weird to me. Why wouldn't they choose one for them and the other for you? Michal gets around this with a casual procedure that seems super fair.

Jumping off from the "fair" selection, there are a number of fair displays that make the subsequent changes completely baffling. You end mostly clean and should be able to clean up completely if you have any experience as a card magician. But this is not hard -- it's an advanced beginner level effect.

I made up a set from the preview PDF Mike kindly sent me (I had the necessary cards lying around) and have gotten strong reactions. If you like 10-card or head-to-head poker deals or if you like card printing effects, then you will love this.

Agreed with what other said about this trick. As long as you have the right cards and you are able to do some simple sleights, you are ready to perform. This is not a "Haha, I win and you lose" trick. Spectator will look at you as a magician, instead of a poker card player, after the performance.

Mike did a really good job in crediting people who inspired him to come up with this trick. Well done, Mike!!

So I got my hands on Misdeal by Michael Kociolek

the pdf gives you everything you need to construct your own cards, but if you do not want to struggle, I would suggest you buy a set from Mike.

Anyway, if you are a fan of 10 card poker routines, this one is stellar.

Its easy to do, and allows you to focus on your presentation.

You get an 18 page pdf with instructions as well as illustrations on how to carry out the routine, structure, and moves.

I don't do much Poker routines, but I am going to make up the necessary cards, and have this on me, since its a fooling trick.
