Candela by J.R. Thorn eARC Review

Hi! I’m Candela and I own the best cupcake shop in Silver Springs—before my reputation got ruined, anyway. Lately all of my cupcakes have been coming out burnt, my smoke detectors are on the fritz, and my husky companion named Jasper won’t stop barking at customers. When I thought it couldn’t get any worse, my favorite Christmas candle set my display stand on fire.

With no choice but to close up my shop for the day, I decided to release some stress at Silver Spring’s skating rink. You’d think that would chill me out—wrong! Apparently I’m a magnet for trouble because I’ve been hit by a mate spell and now I’m trapped between three guys who all want a taste.

Shane—the firefighter who wants to start my fire instead of quench it.

Jasper—my husky who turns out to be a shifter… he took showers with me, the pervert!

Lance—a sexy-as-sin Fire Fae who said his brother Titus sent him to my world to recover fire magic that didn’t belong to me and now its running rampant in Silver Springs. That sounds about right.

Send help, because these guys are going to burn me to a crisp!

Candela is a standalone paranormal comedy romance with a mystery to solve and a guest appearance of a delicious Fire Fae from the Elemental Fae universe—Titus’s brother!
This story is part of the Silver Springs shared universe and can be read in any order.

Review:

This is book 11 in the Silver Skates series that takes place in the small magical town where some humans live among the supernatural creatures of the world, and I can’t believe that we’re already so far along!

Candela is such a fun little story that I needed to break up all of the heavier mor intense books that I’ve been reading lately!

This has to be one of my favorite book so far in this series of books. In this book Candela is one of the humans in this town, but she’s special because she is able to see the mystical and magical parts of the town.

Out of all the books I’ve read from this series and the last, the whole how do humans handle the supernatural part of Silver Springs has always had me wondering, and I finally got the answers in the book.

Apparently when one of the supes either talk about or doing anything supernatural related, the human kind of zones out and “wakes” back up when it’s over with.

The book pulled me in from the very beginning with Candela being questioned for the fire that takes out her bakery/loft leaving her not only without a place to live and earn her living, but she also ends up meeting all of her mates (or the equivalent for a human).

Shane, who also happens to be a human, has been wanting to talk to Candela for a while now, but hasn’t found the best way until he comes to put out the fire and keeps watch over her while her place is being investigated. While they watch, Shane, Candela, Lance, and Candela’s friend goes skating when the bonds snap into place.

Shane doesn’t know how to interpret it since he isn’t a supe, but all he knows is that he wants to finally act on his feeling, while Lance and Jason (Candela’s husky-shifter) aren’t quite as willing in the beginning for their own reasons.

As the book continues, there wasn’t any real moments that made me want to put the book down from exasperation and didn’t have to many of those moments where there was bad thing after bad thing. I had sit down when I was beginning to start the book with the intention to read a couple of chapters and ending up finishing it in a couple of hours!

Happy reading until next time,

Shane, who also happens to be a human, has been wanting to talk to Candela for a while now, but hasn’t found the best way until he comes to put out the fire and keeps watch over her while her place is being investigated. While they watch, Shane, Candela, Lance, and Candela’s friend goes skating when the bonds snap into place.

2. David - 1/5 stars - "The Fanged Spell" by J.R. Thorn was a complete waste of time. The writing was amateurish, filled with grammatical errors and awkward sentence structure. The plot was nonsensical and confusing, leaving me with more questions than answers. Additionally, the romantic element of the story felt forced and lacked any chemistry between the characters. 3. Megan - 3/5 stars - While "The Fanged Spell" by J.R. Thorn had an interesting premise, I found the execution to be lacking. The pacing was slow, and the story felt overly convoluted at times. The world-building was also underdeveloped, leaving me confused about certain aspects of the magical system and the rules of the supernatural world within the book.
