Hey, so you just came from Dungeons & Dragons, and are looking at how your wizard only gets 3 spell slots for a given level. Maybe that's bumming you out. Maybe you picked Summoner or Magus and are staring down that barrel of having almost no spell slots. And you're thinking to yourself "Wow, that's almost no spells, is wizard just a glorified 5e warlock who cantrips all day?"

The answer to this "Why do I have no magic on my mage" problem is wands. And when you get familiar with them, you will love them. And also your furry familiar, but that was a given, wasn't it?

Wands in PF2e work fundamentally differently than in other d20 games. Instead of having a stockpile of spellcasts you burn through, they load up just one, that refreshes every day. More importantly WANDS USE YOUR CASTING STATS. Yes, you read that right. If you cast Fireball from your wand, it's not some default basic bitch fireball, it's the exact same fireball as if you cast it yourself. If you cast a debuff from a wand, the DC is gonna be as high as if you cast it from your spellslots.

Every wand you buy, is a permanent prepared spell slot of that specific spell. Forever. And you want to know how much it costs to do this? It's only 60gp for a 1st level wand, and 160 for a 2nd. Not cheap, sure, but you are buying a spell slot forever. Ask yourself this, would you spend 60 GP and a hand to give your wizard advantage on one attack roll per day, forever? How about 160 GP to get Mirror Image or Blur? How about 360 GP for Haste? How often are you going to be casting Haste do you think?

And that's before we even start talking about the fun wands that are just plain better than casting it yourself. Would you like to cast Magic Missile 11 times for one action? 160 gold please. or 700 if you want to launch 22 missiles for one action. Or further levels of more gold if you want to go full mecha anime missile storm. For one action, which means you can launch an entire other spell.

The only limiting factor on wands is that you actually have to draw your spellslinging not-guns. While I'd suggest your wizard take note from pirates and have an entire legion of wand holsters spread across their body to quickdraw from, even that can be too slow. But you can always have your pet raven pick out your wands with its beak and pass them to you. Now you're using your familiar's action to manage your wands, not yours. Which means you aren't paying the action tax, simply the pet food tax.

As a side note, this is why any aspiring thieves should steer very clear of magic shops without a team and a lot of planning. Because there is a very real chance that the store owner has multiple wands of disintegration behind the counter. Do you really want to mess with a wizard with a hundred spell slots?
